Abbandonarsi alle nuvole

The exhibition

On 16 October, Fondazione Brodbeck opens “Abbandonarsi alle nuvole” (“Surrendering to the clouds”), the exhibition curated by Mario Bronzino and Barbara Cammarata.

The project, promoted by Isola Catania, brings to a close Coalizioni Isola, an initiative supported by Laboratorio di Creatività Contemporanea, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

“Abbandonarsi alle nuvole” brings together the research of Alessandro Costanzo, Silvia Muscolino, Roberto Orlando and Margherita Pedrotta, and grows out of the relationship between time, memory and transformation. The exhibition invites you to look at how forms, gestures, materials and images from the past can resurface in the present and take on new meanings.

The title evokes a past that, like clouds, moves through time and changes shape. The works aren’t reduced to a single narrative: juxtapositions, distances and connections stay open, leaving visitors free to build their own story.

It’s in this open space that the works of the four artists meet, through different languages and practices. Alessandro Costanzo’s minimal gestures set in motion assemblages made of industrial materials; Silvia Muscolino’s female figures gather in gestures of care and collective ritual; Roberto Orlando recovers fragments of the stories and techniques of resin tappers, bringing them back, transformed, into the present; Margherita Pedrotta recomposes materials that once had other uses, together with images tied to time and memory, without following a set narrative direction.

The exhibition design, by the architecture studio Analogique, builds a minimal infrastructure in the outdoor spaces of Fondazione Brodbeck: an unbroken line, made of elements of different kinds and materials, that runs from the entrance through the whole route and guides the eye towards the works. Like an inverted white cube, this continuous sequence of technical devices, usually hidden from view and here repeated and recognisable by their colour, reunites different spaces and languages and grafts the works onto the post-industrial archaeology of the site.

The exhibition is free to visit until 27 November 2026.
