Why work at Isola

Important work, done by people full of passion

Putting new generations centre stage is a job: building spaces where people meet, programmes that open up real opportunities, relationships that are worth more than a single project. People who work at Isola do it here, not elsewhere, and see the effect of what they do on real people.

We are a close-knit team, mostly women, with an average age just over thirty. Around us, an archipelago of more than one hundred organisations, from companies and startups to foundations, universities, the third sector and institutions. And the privilege of working in an extraordinary place, Palazzo Biscari.

If you want to build your future in Sicily, working to make it a better island, join us.

Head of Administration

We are looking for the person who oversees Isola’s administrative and accounting cycle, from invoice to annual accounts, and who can turn numbers into useful information for decision-makers.

What you will do

Accounting and annual accounts

Independent general accounting: journal entries, receivables and payables cycles, fixed assets, accruals and deferrals.

Cost accounting: allocating costs and revenues by cost centre and by project.

Year-end closing: adjusting entries and preparing the data for the annual accounts, together with the accountancy firm that drafts them.

Corporate obligations: keeping the company books and supporting shareholders’ meetings, filing the annual accounts and RUNTS obligations.

Tax obligations

VAT and electronic invoicing: periodic VAT settlements, LIPE returns, the SdI cycle, reverse charge and split payment.

Withholdings and certifications: withholding tax, F24 payments, certifications, collecting data for the returns handled by the accountancy firm.

What is specific to a social enterprise: the limits on profit distribution set by Legislative Decree 112/2017, the transparency obligations on public grants under Law 124/2017, contributing to the social report. If you are not familiar with them, you will learn them here.

Treasury and receivables

Cash: bank reconciliations, supplier payment schedule, payment planning.

Planning: updating the thirteen-week cash flow plan.

Recurring revenue: invoicing coworking memberships, offices, business addresses and events, reminders and management of overdue payments.

Reporting on funded projects

Reports: preparing reports on regional, national and European calls: reconciling eligible costs, timesheets, document traceability, separate accounts for each project, support in preparing budgets.

Funders: support during audits and checks.

Payroll administration

Monthly cycle: collecting and checking attendance, expense claims and reimbursements, liaising with the payroll consultant, recording payroll.

Essential requirements

Qualifications: a degree in Economics, or an equivalent qualification.

Experience: at least three years in general accounting, gained in a professional firm or in a company.

Obligations: a thorough command of VAT obligations and electronic invoicing.

Year-end closing: having taken part in year-end closings, handling adjusting entries and preparing the data for the annual accounts.

English: B2 level, written and spoken, and the ability to read documents in English, for the European programmes.

Helpful, but not essential

Third sector: experience in third-sector organisations, social enterprises or cooperatives.

Funds: reporting on projects funded by public and private funds.

If you don’t tick every box, apply anyway. The five essential requirements are the ones we cannot compromise on. The other two are an advantage, not a filter.

What we offer

Starting salary

Gross annual salary between €25,000 and €30,000, depending on experience.

Contract

12-month fixed-term, full-time contract, with the prospect of a permanent position. The Federculture national collective agreement applies. A freelance collaboration (with a VAT number) may also be considered.
